SXSW for job seekers
March 8 - 17, 2018
Looking for work? Make the most of SXSW!
SXSW continues to be my favorite annual conference. While we've all seen our industry conventions dwindling or pulling back on their offerings and attendance, SXSW continues to boom!
SXSW (South by Southwest) began in 1987. Since then it continues to expand in scope and attendance. The more than a week-long extravaganza includes film, interactive media, music festivals, and other events. SXSW said about 421,900 participated in SXSWeek, with 70,696 attending its interactive, film, and music conferences in 2017. 2018 is on target to beat those numbers.
For our interactive industry readers, let's focus on the 5-day interactive conference that includes digital, gaming, media, etc. Who attends? Having a look at the SXSW featured speaker's list will give you a taste for the talent upcoming.
Why do you want to be there? If you have a thirst to learn the latest and greatest technologies being developed today ... be there. If you want to rub shoulders with industry elite ... be there. If you want to be apart of an event that has a global impact on the direction of your industry ... be there. And of course, if you are a job-seeker (or even just keeping your options open) ... get there fast. But if you're simply looking for a fantastically fun time ... you should already have arrived!
Hopefully, you've planned ahead because travel and housing are nearly impossible at this late date. But for those who will be in attendance, here is a great article I found that guides job seekers how to make the most of their SXSW experience:
